Park runs around the country have become very popular. These 5k Saturday morning runs are low key but well organised with official time keepers helping the athletes keep a track of their progress. Bryan Astill, Richie Hambly and Nigel Shaw took part in last Saturday’s run at Albert Park in Middlesbrough, while David Kirk ran his third race in a week at Leverholme Park in Bolton.

The popular Tees Valley 5k Trail runs started last Wednesday, the first one of the 2012 series was held at Preston Park, and Burn Road turned out seven athletes. Richard Darling who has just joined us as second claim was neck and neck with eventual winner James Askew of Durham City.

What a great result, Paul Wilson shone at Sunderland, performed brilliantly in unfamiliar territory (leading group in a high profile marathon), and kept his head to enter the history books by winning the inaugural Marathon of the North in Sunderland. The talented runner had the race of his life finishing in 2 hours 43 minutes 31 seconds over a very testing course.

All groups:- Across fields to Dalton Groups 1 & 2:- Carry on to Elwick coming back via Tunstall Farm Group 3:- Turn right at Dalton, along road then back via Tunstall Farm

Tuesday 15th

All Groups:- A tempo run with each group to decide their own route.

Thursday 17th

All groups:- Tempo run Groups 1 & 2:- Along Catcote to black path then back via A689 and Park Road Group 3:- Along Catcote to Owton Manor Lane then back via A689 and Park Road

All groups:- Fartlek session; warm up then 40min fartlek run cool down.

All groups:- Ward Jackson park fast strides down both sides using the top and bottom as recovery.

All groups:- Beach run Group 1:- 3 sets of (4x300m), 100m jog recovery Group 2:- 3 sets of (3x300m), 100m jog recovery Group 3:- 4 sets of (2x300m), 100m jog recovery

All Groups must warm up properly.
Sessions start at 6pm with a warm up. Main session starts at approx 6.15pm so please make sure that you are warmed up properly.
Tuesday session will be at Seaton Promenade and Thursday session will be from West Rugby Club.
Each session will be split into three manageable groups with coaches and leaders taking their respective groups.
These sessions are not set in tablets of stone, though it is suggested that all participate in them to some degree, even if the number or the length is reduced. Please attempt to assist each other by participating alongside other members with compatible ability or in similar groups of three’s and four’s. |
