Training Nights
In order to bring some sort of structure to the training nights, the committee have drawn up a plan which hopefully will cater for all needs, however will keep us running together as a club.
The plan is to have two groups, one of which will cover distances between 3 and 5 miles and the other which will cover 5 miles onwards. We will have several set routes which will cover road, off-road and hills etc and each week we will cover a different route to prevent boredom.
Both groups will set off together on the same route and this will start slowly so that everyone gets the chance to warm up. Once we are into the main part of the run the group covering the lower mileage will have an earlier turning point on the route than the group covering the higher mileage run. For example, they will turn back at 2 miles so that they complete a 4 mile run whereas the other group will turn back at 3.5 mile so that they complete a 7 mile run. The mileage for the second group will need to be within the capabilities of everyone in that group.
As always, we would not want anyone to end up running on their own at the back of either group and therefore would ask that each week someone volunteers from each group to drop back and make sure that this does not happen. Perhaps this could be done on rotation so that it is not left to the same person each week.
It maybe that in the future, depending on the capabilities of present members and the size of the groups, that we need three groups however for the time being we are only considering two.
The only other addition to these groups will be a group set up to cater for those progressing from the Begin to Run programme. This worked really well this year, however we do need more volunteers to help with this group. As we all started from scratch in running at sometime in our lives, it is always good to help someone else achieve the ability to run.
