5 Runners from Burn Road travelled down to York to compete in the Brass Monkey Half Marathon. There were a record 1,550 finishers in this popular and well-organised race. A goody bag containing a good quality sweatshirt and a couple of chocolate bars makes this race good value for the entry fee.

First to finish was Bryan Astill in 22nd position (3rd over 40 Vet) in a PB time of 1hr 17min 4sec. Andy Minister competing in his 2nd race in 2 days did 1hr 19min, followed by Dave Lake in 1hr 24min, and Dave Edwards in 1hr 27min. Peter Johnson also ran, finishing in 1hr 45min. Good to see former member and webmaster Tom Button competing for his new club Valley Striders, finishing in 1hr 35min.

On Saturday 23 January, Keith Galbraith was the club’s sole representative in the Northern Cross Country Championship at Blackburn, and finished 333rd out of 602 in a time of 54min 58 sec on the tough 11.5km course. Results:- http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2010/naxc10s.htm

Also on Saturday, Andy Minister finished 3rd in the Albert Park 5km run in a time of 16 min 58 sec. Andy Kelly was 6th in 18min 5 sec, swiftly followed by Paul Wilson who was 7th in a time of 18min 9sec. This weekly series of races is free to enter (register in advance), and is getting more and more popular. Details are on the park run website at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/albert/Home.aspx
